What is self-care?

Self-care is not self-indulgence, it is self-preservation

Life is busy, and the older we get, the busier it becomes. Finding time for ourselves seems to fall down the list and gets lost in the crease of the page. We are so busy taking care of everyone else that we forget about ourselves. We are conditioned to put off things that are hard because they may be uncomfortable, or seem unattainable. That stops today!

I am guilty of trying to be everything for everyone and forgetting to save some of myself, for myself. Most days were spent running from place to place making sure every one was okay and everything was done on time. At the end of the day, I still found myself feeling empty, and a little lost. Hobbies? Good habits? Quiet time? I had no idea what those were until I started putting myself first a little each day.

Carving out 5-10 minutes of your day to focus on your wellbeing is what a self-care month is about! It is not about over indulging in snack foods, shopping for hours, or even getting your nails done. Real self-care is about making yourself a priority in your life, especially on the hard days. The saying is true, you cannot pour from an empty cup, so let’s fill yours up!
